[caption id="attachment_1158" align="alignleft" width="150"] There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the views. This is near Mourier Valley on Jersey's north coast.[/caption]
Our beautiful Island is a great place to come in the summer, and we've enjoyed a wonderful summer here at Porthole Suites. While we can't guarantee wall to wall sunshine in Jersey, we certainly get more than our fair ...

What a Weekend!
If you were bored at the weekend you can't have been in Jersey. There was so much to do in Jersey over the two days it would be impossible for anyone to get to every event, either as a participant or a spectator.
For example, thousands of people attended Groove de Leqc, an all-day music and fun festival held at Moulin De Leqc, in the northwest of the island on Saturday. The weather was fabulous...

A Summer of Sport
If sport is your thing - watching or taking part - there are few places with more going on than Jersey. And if your sport involves running or cycling then there's a good chance you'll be able to catch sight of the competitors as they pass through St Aubin's village.
This Sunday sees the internationally renowned Jersey Triathlon and, as usual, St Aubin is on the 40km cycling route for the event ...

Butterflies and Bees at Hamptonne
We've just been reminded that there's a special family event being run by Jersey Heritage at Hamptonne this Sunday, 22 May: a chance to learn all about butterflies and bees and how they can be helped and encouraged into your garden.
You'll find Hamptonne at the top of Waterworks Valley, which is itself a lovely part of the island and a perfect place to see some of the island's wildlife. The roa...

The Round Island Walk
The Collas Crill Round Island Walk takes place on the Saturday nearest the longest day of the year, and for good reason! On average, it takes about 15 hours to get round the 48.1 miles of coastline, but you go at your own speed and it really is worth attempting, at least once. This year it's on 18 June.
One of our friends (left) did it for the first time last year and vowed he'd never attempt i...

May Day Events in Jersey
You'll find even more things to do in Jersey than usual this weekend. We've seen more early-season visitors this year than we have for many years, with the early Easter probably helping those figures, but May Day events in Jersey are when we usually see the biggest attendances of the year so far. This is despite the many competing attractions for visitors and locals of all ages. (more…)

There's an unusual opportunity to enjoy a unique experience and support a very worth cause, should you happen to be in Jersey on May 8th - a chance to abseil for the RNLI - meaning you can abseil down the cliff at Noirmont Point and support the RNLI at the same time. (more…)

Signs of Spring in Jersey
We love the spring - who doesn't? And the first signs of genuine spring have been appearing in Jersey in the last week or two.
One of those is the increasing number of visitors as the holiday season gets underway. Another is the spring flowers. (more…)

A Walk Out to See
Our big tides mean the sea often goes out a long way on some beaches, including in St Aubin's Bay, and one of our regular guests took the opportunity last week to walk out and explore the seabed beyond the fort.
While out there she looked back to see St Aubin's village and harbour looking postcard-perfect in the spring sunshine. (more…)

Take the Train
Easter might have come early this year but it's not too early for the first signs of summer in St Aubin! These including Le Petit Train, which started regular services around the bay between St Aubin's Parish Hall (Salle Paroisialle) and Liberation Square in St Helier on Good Friday. Very popular it was, too!
You may or may not know that real live steam trains used to operate along almost the s...
